Frequently Asked Questions
1. What ages or year levels do you work with?
I work with students from early primary through to secondary school (NCEA). Each service is tailored to the child’s age, stage, and specific learning needs.
2. How do your phonics and literacy sessions help children with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD)?
I use the same phonics programmes taught in local schools, ensuring consistency between classroom learning and tutoring. This targeted support helps children build essential reading skills, reinforces what they’re already learning, and develops confidence at their own pace.
3. Do you only tutor maths at primary level?
No, I offer maths tutoring from primary through to intermediate level. Sessions cover everything from foundational number skills to more complex problem-solving, always matched to your child’s learning style and pace.
4. How do you support students preparing for NCEA writing standards?
Through one-on-one coaching, I guide students step by step in planning, structuring, and refining their writing to meet NCEA requirements. This helps them express ideas clearly, gain confidence, and earn credits towards their qualification.
5. What’s the difference between one-on-one tutoring and workshops?
One-on-one sessions are personalised, flexible, and tailored to the individual child’s goals.
Workshops are small-group, interactive, and run during the school holidays. They focus on developing core skills in a fun and collaborative environment.
6. How much do the workshops cost, and how do I register?
Workshops cost $40 per child for a 2-hour session. A minimum of 5 students is required for the workshop to run (with a maximum of 10). Registration can be done by contacting me directly, places are limited, so early booking is recommended.
7. Where are the workshops held?
Workshops are held locally (venue details provided upon registration). I aim to create a safe, supportive, and accessible learning environment for all students.
8. Do you offer online tutoring?
Yes, I can offer online sessions for one-on-one tutoring if travel or scheduling is a challenge. Workshops are held in person to encourage collaboration and interaction.
9. How do I know if tutoring is right for my child?
I recommend booking a free 15-minute consultation. This gives us a chance to discuss your child’s needs, learning goals, and how tutoring could best support them.
10. How do I get started?
Simply get in touch to arrange a consultation or to book a workshop. From there, I’ll outline the next steps and create a tailored plan to support your child’s learning journey.
